REGINA — A 44-year-old man from Theodore was arrested Saturday afternoon after police say he punched a Regina officer during a traffic stop involving an unregistered vehicle.
Police say the incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on March 7, when a patrol officer spotted an unregistered vehicle in the area of Park Street and 10th Avenue. The officer later conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of 6th Avenue East.
According to police, the driver refused multiple requests to identify himself. The man was outside the vehicle when the officer told him he was under arrest. Police say the suspect then punched the officer twice, leading to a struggle.
The officer tried to use a taser but it wasn’t effective. After a brief struggle, the man was taken into custody.
He is charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, and obstructing a peace officer. He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
