SASKATOON — Saskatoon police say two separate evade-police incidents over the weekend resulted in six people facing charges after the Air Support Unit (ASU) guided officers to suspects in stolen vehicles.
The first incident started around 4 p.m. on March 6, when patrol officers spotted a stolen white Toyota Corolla travelling south on Idylwyld Drive from 38th Street West. The ASU was called in as the vehicle stopped at Alberta Avenue and 36th Street, where the driver ran from the car. A passenger then moved into the driver’s seat and continued driving.
Police say the ASU followed the vehicle until it stopped in a parking lot at 33rd Street and Idylwyld Drive. Patrol officers arrested three people at the scene, and the fourth person – the original driver who fled on foot – was located and taken into custody.
Two men, ages 26 and 28, and two 26-year-old women are now facing a combined 17 charges.
A second incident occurred early Monday morning.
At about 3:45 a.m. on March 9, officers attempted to stop a black Kia Soul confirmed to be stolen as it travelled on 22nd Street West near Confederation Drive. Police say the vehicle fled, and the ASU located it, tracking it to a back alley in the 400 block of Avenue W North.
Three people got out and went in a garage. According to police, two women walked to the front of the house, where officers were waiting and arrested them. A 24-year-old man was seen entering the home and was later found hiding in a bedroom.
A 32-year-old woman is charged with possession of methamphetamine, while the 24-year-old man is charged with break and enter. A second woman was released without charges.
