ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service attended to separate calls for service March 7 regarding fights at a liquor establishment, the latter of which resulted in charges.
According to the EPS, the first incident involved three people fighting, and it was determined by the EPS that one of the parties involved had left the scene prior to police arriving. Several people were spoken to and the EPS says the matter remains under investigation.
Approximately 45 minutes later, police responded to the same location for another fight in progress. The EPS said a 28-year old man was arrested and lodged in cells as a result. He was subsequently charged with assault and failing to comply with conditions of a release order, and was released the following day. He will attend court at a later date to speak to the charges.
In other recent police news, police received a request to attend the Estevan Innovex U18 AAA Bears hockey game at Affinity Place on March 3 following a report of an assault between fans. The EPS said officers attended the scene and the matter remains under investigation.
Police were called March 6 to a residence for a report of a damaged bedroom window. Members attended and spoke with the complainant, and the EPS said the matter is still under investigation.
The EPS received a report of smoke and a chemical smell coming from a neighbouring yard in the 500-block of First Street A. Patrols were conducted and no smoke was visible, but one homeowner had started an old snowmobile which the EPS said may have been the cause.
Police attended to two noise complaints in different areas of the city. The EPS reported one homeowner was warned of the bylaw and the other party appeared to have shut down prior to police arriving.
A report came in of a suspicious vehicle parked outside of a business. Members attended to find the owner of the business dropping off supplies.
While out on patrol, officers came upon a fight outside of a liquor establishment. The EPS said one person sustained minor injuries. Estevan Emergency Medical Services attended to assess the man, who was then sent home with friends. The other man was provided a ride home. The EPS said there are no charges at this time.
Report of a two-vehicle collision. Both vehicles were driveable but one was from outside the province. The EPS reported no injuries as a result of the collision.
A report came in of a man damaging a vehicle in a parking lot outside of a business. A statement was obtained and the EPS said the matter is under investigation.
Police received a request from a local school to locate a student who had not returned after lunch. Members located the student, who was transported to their parents.
EPS received a report March 7 of a vehicle speeding within city limits. The caller obtained the licence plate and the registered owner was contacted and warned under the Traffic Safety Act.
Police attended to an apartment complex for a report of a tenant dispute. Members mediated the situation and one tenant was warned about his actions towards the others.
A report came in of a loud party in the Trojan area, but when police patrolled the area, no loud music was heard and all attendees were inside the residence. No further complaints were received regarding the party.
Members concluded a missing person investigation involving a 12-year-old girl during the March 8 dayshift. The youth returned home after police efforts to locate her over multiple shifts were unsuccessful.
An employee at a local gas station reported being the victim of a fraud after a caller claiming to be with a delivery service demanded payment, or cancellation of an order would occur. Funds were sent by way of money transfer. The matter remains under investigation.
EPS members attended to a residence for a person experiencing a mental health crisis. The individual was transported to the hospital for further assessment, and the Police and Crisis Team (PACT) will follow up with further supports as needed.
A dirt bike was reported to be travelling at a high rate of speed in a back alley in the Valleyview area. Members attended the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or identify the operator.
