The wait continues for Saskatchewan curling fans.
With the conclusion of this year’s Brier in St. John's, the province’s men’s championship drought will now reach 47 years.
Saskatchewan was represented this year by rinks skipped by Mike McEwen and Kelly Knapp, but neither was able to make a championship run.
The last time a Saskatchewan rink lifted the Brier Tankard was in 1980 when Rick Folk captured the national title.
For a province known as one of Canada’s true curling hotbeds, the drought has become one of the sport’s longest-running storylines.
But there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
Next year’s Brier will be played in Saskatoon — giving Saskatchewan curlers a chance to chase history on home ice.
And after nearly five decades of waiting, fans across the province will be hoping that home advantage might finally bring the Tankard back to Saskatchewan.
