ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) received a request from the Estevan RCMP to assist in dealing with a Bienfait man on March 12.
According to an EPS news release, the 47-year-old man was destroying property with a baseball bat and threatening individuals. The EPS and RCMP members attended to an apartment building and arrested the man for uttering threats. He was transported to the EPS building and lodged in cells, pending continuation of an RCMP investigation.
Also on March 12, the EPS received a report of an ongoing fraud. The matter is still under investigation.
Police received a report of suspicious people and a possible theft of a bicycle in the Westview area. The individuals involved were identified and the EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
The EPS assisted the Regina Police Service (RPS) March 11 by obtaining a statement from an Estevan resident who reported being assaulted in that jurisdiction several days prior. The EPS said the statement will be forwarded to the RPS for continuation of their investigation.
Estevan members of the joint tactical support team (JTST) assisted their counterparts with the Weyburn Police Service during a five-hour standoff in Weyburn. The person involved eventually surrendered without further incident.
Police received a report of an erratic driver travelling west on Highway 18, east of Bienfait. The EPS said it intercepted the vehicle on the outskirts of Estevan and the motorist was cautioned about her driving actions. No signs of impairment were noted during the traffic stop.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance in the Hillside area and mediated a resolution between family members. A second call from one of the parties was received later in the shift and members again provided advice to deal with concerns. No further police involvement was required.
Police received a report of a man loitering and acting erratically near several of the banks on Fourth Street. Members attended, but the man, who is known to police, had left the area prior to police arriving.
EPS received a request from hospital staff to locate a patient who left the building prior to being medically released by the doctor. The individual was located and agreed to voluntarily return to the hospital with no further police involvement required.
Police attended to a disturbance in the Pleasantdale area. With the assistance of the on-duty social worker from the Ministry of Social Services, the matter was mediated.
EPS received a call March 11 through the 911 system from a woman stating she required assistance. Members attended and located the woman, who the EPS said was grossly intoxicated and experiencing a mental health crisis. She was subsequently transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for assessment and eventually released into the care of family members.
Officers were dispatched to a burglar alarm at a local business. The alarm was determined to be unfounded and cancelled prior to police arrival.
A request for assistance to remove an intoxicated man from a residence was received. Members attended the residence, and he was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells to be released once sober.
A report of a smoke/carbon monoxide detector going off at a residence in south Estevan was attended to by the EPS and Estevan Fire Rescue Service. EPS members ensured everyone on scene was safely out of the house. The fire department investigated the alarm and determined the detector was likely faulty.
