REGINA — Saskatchewan marked the kickoff of Les Rendez‑vous de la Francophonie 2026 at the Saskatchewan Gallery, drawing students, community leaders and Francophone organizations together to celebrate the vitality of French language and culture across the province. The annual event, proclaimed for March by the Government of Saskatchewan, spotlights Fransaskois heritage and invites everyone to take part in festivities running through March 31.
“We remain committed to honouring the richness and diversity of Saskatchewan’s Francophone community,” said Alana Ross, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. “This celebration gives us the chance to gather, learn, and recognize the contributions of Fransaskois people throughout the province.”
This year’s theme, “Activate your Francophonie,” encourages residents to engage with French language and culture — not just witness it. Across the province, events will range from concerts highlighting Francophone artists, flag‑raising ceremonies, language workshops and free National Film Board screenings that showcase Francophone films and documentaries.
Les Rendez‑vous de la Francophonie leads into International Day of La Francophonie on March 20, a global celebration observed by Francophone communities around the world recognizing shared values of language, culture and diversity.
Saskatchewan’s Fransaskois community is part of a larger cultural tapestry. According to national figures, the province has thousands of residents who speak French as their first language, and many more who converse in French, including in cities like Regina and Saskatoon.
The Assemblée Communautaire Fransaskoise, representing Fransaskois interests since 1912, supports cultural development, visibility and community services in French across Saskatchewan.
At today’s gallery event, attendees enjoyed performances, cultural exhibits and glimpses of the month’s packed calendar, reinforcing that Francophonie is not a static tradition but a living culture woven into Saskatchewan’s schools, community centres and daily life.
Whether through concerts, workshops, francophone films or local gatherings, March in Saskatchewan offers residents an opportunity to explore language and heritage alongside neighbours and friends.
Les Rendez‑vous de la Francophonie continues throughout the month with activities in communities large and small, inviting everyone to explore, learn, and celebrate the enduring spirit of Francophone culture.
