BALGONIE — White Butte RCMP and local emergency services conducted a preplanned lockdown drill at Greenall High School on the morning of March 17.
Police said the exercise was not an emergency and was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to improve emergency preparedness in schools.
Residents in Balgonie may have noticed an increased police and emergency presence around the school and in the community during the drill. RCMP emphasized there was no risk to public safety.
The exercise is part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s involvement in the School Action for Emergencies (SAFE) program, which focuses on strengthening school response protocols.
Officers also receive active threat training through the Immediate Action Rapid Deployment (IARD) policy and program, which prepares police to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Anyone with questions about lockdown drills or school procedures is asked to contact the Prairie Valley School Division.
