The Regina Red Sox are continuing to shape their roster for a championship defence, and they’re doing it with a strong Saskatchewan flavour.
The club announced the addition of three Canadians ahead of the 2026 Western Canadian Baseball League season, highlighted by the return of White City product Brady Bye and the signing of Regina pitcher Tristan Eberle. Toronto outfielder Raine Kreklewetz rounds out the trio.
For Red Sox fans, the biggest news is the return of Bye.
The veteran catcher is set for his fourth season in Regina after playing a major role in last year’s championship run. Bye hit .333 with nine home runs and a .947 OPS in 45 games in 2025, then elevated his play in the postseason, batting .333 with 10 RBIs in eight games on the way to being named the team’s playoff MVP.
Now wrapping up his senior season at Point University, Bye has continued to produce offensively while showing his versatility, seeing time at third base while hitting .268 with 24 RBIs.
Red Sox field manager Rye Pothakos says bringing him back was a priority.
“The return of Brady is great news as we continue to assemble our roster for 2026. He had an outstanding 2025 season, and we look forward to his leadership and production again this summer.”
Eberle gives the Red Sox a homegrown arm with plenty of upside.
The 6-foot-4 right-hander from Regina is currently pitching at the University of Mary and brings a fastball in the upper-80s. Still early in his collegiate career, Eberle has already represented Team Saskatchewan and continues to develop into a promising piece on the mound.
“Tristan is a big right-handed pitcher with velocity and a high ceiling,” Pothakos said. “We’re excited to see him continue to mature and develop into an integral piece of our pitching staff.”
Kreklewetz adds another offensive weapon to the lineup.
The Toronto product is off to a strong start in his freshman season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, hitting .364 with four home runs and 18 RBIs. A graduate of the Ontario Blue Jays program, he brings both athleticism and a strong baseball background to Regina.
“Raine is an exceptional athlete with great baseball IQ,” said Pothakos. “We’re looking forward to what he can bring to our lineup.”
With familiar faces returning and new talent arriving, the Red Sox are clearly building with one goal in mind.
“We look forward to all three players contributing to our quest to repeat as WCBL champions,” Pothakos said.
And with local talent leading the way, that push is already starting to take shape.
