Shutterbugs will want to have their cameras ready tonight and into the early morning hours of Thursday as the evening sky will be looking very colourful.
Folks in southern, southwestern, and west central Saskatchewan will have the best view of aurora borealis thanks to a relatively clear sky. According to scientists, the light show is thanks to a large solar flare from the sun that is headed towards Earth, arriving sometime tonight and into tomorrow morning. As the flare reaches Earth’s magnetic field it creates a colourful light show in the atmosphere.
Forecasters have issued a G2 rated geomagnetic storm which means it will be relatively moderate compared to G4 and G5 geomagnetic storms that often cause problems for communications systems.
Residents of Regina and Saskatoon may have some difficulty viewing the northern lights thanks to partly cloudy conditions.
