CANOE LAKE CREE FIRST NATION – Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) is investigating a suspicious death on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation.
On March 16, Beauval RCMP received a report that a woman was receiving treatment in the hospital for serious injuries. The woman died of her injuries on March 17. She has been identified as a 51-year-old woman from Canoe Lake Cree First Nation. Her family has been notified.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU took charge of the investigation and is being assisted by North Battleford Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the North Battleford Serious Crimes Unit and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
The initial investigation has determined the woman's death is suspicious in nature. HIU continues to investigate. As this is an active and ongoing investigation, police say they are unable to provide further details at this time.

Investigators advise there will be an increased police presence in Canoe Lake Cree First Nation for an undetermined amount of time.
Updates will be provided when possible. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, police will notify the public.
