REGINA — The RM of Sherwood will have to fill the void of several members of council who recently departed.
The municipality confirmed the resignations of Reeve Susan Oakley-Paul, along with Councillors Grant Paul, John Wilke and Trent Reiger in a public document on its website on Wednesday.
No reason behind each member leaving was stated by the RM.
With four members leaving, the RM currently only has three council members, meaning a “loss of quorum” has occurred, and bylaw or rule changes cannot be administered.
The Government of Saskatchewan plans to step in by appointing one or more members of council to constitute a quorum.
“These appointed persons will hold office until the general municipal election in Nov. 2026, where all vacancies will be filled.”
The RM of Sherwood held its last municipal election in 2024, meaning councillors elected in Nov. will hold their position for two years until the next one in 2028.
Even with changes in leadership, the RM said their commitment to serving the taxpayers remains strong.
Administration also plans to continue working with council to ensure strong governance.
