LUCKY LAKE – The RCMP are continuing their investigation of a reported threat made toward a local school earlier this month.
The Sun West School Division says it was made aware on Monday, March 9 of a potential threat directed toward the Lucky Lake School that required evaluation by police.
The school was closed on Tuesday for safety precautions and reopened on Wednesday of that week.
The Rosetown RCMP began investigating immediately after receiving the report at 6 p.m. of an individual from the Lucky Lake area who allegedly made a threatening comment involving a school. In order to allow time for the investigation and communication between the RCMP and the school division, the school was closed on Tuesday, March 10.
In a message to parents and caregivers, school officials said the closure was made out of an abundance of caution while the situation was being assessed. All school activities scheduled for Tuesday, including student-led conferences and community events, were postponed.
Division officials added that they appreciated the support and partnership of the RCMP as the matter was investigated.
Based on the evidence they have collected so far, the RCMP are not laying any charges at this time. Police added that there is no imminent risk to the public.
The Sun West School Division says it will not be releasing additional details in order to respect the RCMP investigation.
