REGINA — The CIBC Run for the Cure, Canada’s largest single-day volunteer-led breast cancer fundraiser, returns on Oct. 4, and Regina organizers are seeking volunteers to help lead the local event.
For more than 30 years, this annual walk and run has raised millions to fund research and provide support for people affected by breast cancer.
Organized by the Canadian Cancer Society, the run relies on community leaders to co-ordinate routes, manage logistics, engage local partners and celebrate survivors. Positions available include site lead, route lead, director of community engagement, hope engagement lead, sponsorship lead, and fundraising & stewardship lead. Each role requires a commitment of three months or more, giving volunteers the chance to shape the event from planning to the finish line.
“The run is a powerful day when we come together to walk, run, fundraise, and honour those affected by breast cancer,” said Laurie Benner, vice-president of signature programs with the Canadian Cancer Society. “Funds raised in our communities create lasting impact for research, treatment and support programs.”
Volunteers are also needed year-round for initiatives such as Wheels of Hope, which provides transportation for patients travelling to treatment.
Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women, with one in eight women expected to face the disease in their lifetime. Every step taken, every dollar raised, and every volunteer hour invested moves the fight forward, turning a national campaign into a meaningful local impact.
Across Canada last year, more than 60,000 participants and volunteers took part in the run at dozens of locations, raising over $18 million to support breast cancer research and national support programs.
Since the event began in 1992, it has helped raise more than $540 million for the breast cancer cause in Canada, funding research breakthroughs, clinical trials and support services for patients and families.
