ESTEVAN — A man on a conditional sentence order (CSO) was held in custody following a reported assault in Estevan.
According to the March 22 report from the Estevan Police Service (EPS), members received a report of an assault in progress. A citizen intervened until police arrived. The EPS said members arrested the 38-year-old man for assault, and he was lodged in cells to attend court March 23 in Estevan to speak to the CSO breach allegation.
In other recent police news, the EPS said it received a request March 18 to conduct a well-being check on a woman who had written a concerning text to a friend. She was located safe and well, and had supports in place to assist her.
A collision on Kensington Avenue resulted in one vehicle being towed from the scene. Members attended and performed traffic control while the vehicle was removed. The EPS said no injuries resulted from the incident.
EPS members assisted a member of the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol to arrest and process a prohibited driver. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days as a result of the traffic stop.
A report of individuals in an abandoned building in the Hillside area was investigated. The EPS said nobody was located on the property.
A security alarm from a local business was received during the night shift. Members attended and found the building to be secure with no signs of forced entry.
The theft of laptop from a vehicle is under investigation.
EPS members responded to a request from a parent to locate their child, who had snuck out of the residence during the early morning hours of March 19. Attempts to locate the youth through friends and by attending locations that the child frequents were unsuccessful. The EPS said the young person returned home later in the day and was found to be safe and well.
A hit-and-run collision was reported to have occurred in a hotel parking lot in northeast Estevan. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation and the necessary SGI documentation was completed on behalf of the victim.
A semi-trailer unit reported to be leaking hazardous materials was investigated, and the EPS said it determined the leak was not occurring.
Police attended to an alarm at a local financial institution. On arrival, the EPS said it was determined that staff had set the alarm off and no break and enter had occurred.
EPS members were dispatched April 20 to a man and woman engaged in a loud argument in the city centre. The EPS said members mediated a temporary solution and provide options for additional community resources to assist them.
A second loud argument was investigated in the downtown area during night shift involving the same woman as the earlier occurrence but with a different man. As a result of the investigation, the EPS said Estevan Emergency Medical Services was arranged for a third party who had been assaulted. The matter remains under investigation.
A complaint was investigated regarding a woman passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in a downtown parking lot. The EPS said she was resting and no signs of impairment were noted by officers while speaking with her.
A traffic stop during night shift resulted in a seven-day driver’s licence suspension and impoundment of a vehicle after the EPS said the driver performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test.
A noise complaint in the south end was received and investigated during night shift. Members attended and patrolled the area immediately following the complaint but could not identify the source of the noise reported by the complainant.
A report of an individual uttering threats online was received March 21 and investigated. According to the EPS, it was determined that the communication did not meet the requirements to be considered threatening or harassing. The complainant was provided some advice and was asked to advise the EPS if additional concerning messages were received.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance that resulted in one individual being transported to hospital at their request. The EPS said no charges were laid in the incident.
A second domestic disturbance required members to mediate between two spouses having a verbal argument. Following contact with members, the EPS said the matter was resolved sufficiently that both parties agreed to remain peacefully in the residence. No further police involvement was required.
A traffic stop during night shift resulted in a 35-year old Estevan man having his driver's licence suspended for 21 days and his vehicle being impounded for seven days, after the EPS said he performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test. Samples of blood were obtained during the investigation and charges for impaired driving are pending laboratory analysis of the samples.
EPS officers attended to a third domestic disturbance during night shift involving several family members. Arrangements were made for two of those involved to leave the residence for the night. The EPS says alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Police received a report of several young girls ringing the doorbells of residences in the Pleasantdale area on March 22. Members located the youths responsible and warned them before sending them home.
The EPS received a disturbance call at a local hotel. Members attended, located the cause of the noise and warned the occupant responsible under the noise bylaw.
The EPS received a request from the Regina Police Service (RPS) to locate and ensure the well-being of an individual that was suspected to be in Estevan. The investigation determined the woman had been transported to Regina earlier in the day. The RPS was updated as to her last known location, with additional follow-up to be conducted in their jurisdiction.
Police attended to a disturbance at a residence in the Trojan subdivision in which an unwanted guest was refusing to leave. The EPS said police attended and the individual left without incident.
As a result of a traffic stop during night shift, EPS members arrested and charged a 38-year-old Frobisher man for impaired driving by drug. The EPS said he was lodged in cells until sober and will be released to appear in court at a later date to speak to the charge.
