MOOSE JAW — Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services tested 154 drivers for impairment during a weekend check stop near Moose Jaw, resulting in one licence suspension and one speeding fine.
On March 21, between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., officers with White Butte Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS), Regina CTSS and Moose Jaw CTSS conducted a check stop on Highway 2, about two kilometres north of Moose Jaw.
During the check stop, police:
- tested a total of 154 drivers for impairment;
- suspended one driver’s licence for alcohol consumption before driving;
- fined one driver $204 for driving more than 25 km/h above the speed limit; and
- issued 15 warnings.
Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services conducted the check stop to target impaired driving as part of National Impaired Driving Prevention Week.
“While we appreciate the many drivers who chose to stay sober Saturday night, even one driver under the influence is one too many,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Sauve of Saskatchewan RCMP Southwest Traffic Services in a release. “The risks are too severe and the consequences can change lives forever. That’s why we continue to conduct check stops and patrols that target impaired driving.”
