ESTEVAN — Mischief, a failed business break and enter, and attempted frauds were among the calls for the Estevan Police Service (EPS) in recent days.
According to the March 25 EPS report, two local youths were charged with mischief following an investigation into a small fire lit in a bathroom at the Estevan Market Mall.
Also for March 25, an investigation into an attempted break and enter is underway after the EPS said an alarm call resulted in surveillance video of a suspect attempting to enter a business.
The EPS conducted a well-being check on a woman at the request of a local health organization. The EPS said she was found to be safe and well.
A fraud complaint is being investigated regarding an attempt by the victim to obtain an online loan. During the application process, the EPS said the victim provided personal and banking information, and the bank subsequently flagged unusual activity on his account.
Police responded to a noise complaint at a hotel. The EPS said the subject of the complaint admitted to being under the influence of drugs when speaking to police. There was no loud noise coming from the hotel room upon police arrival, but the individual admitted to listening to loud music earlier in the evening. He was warned under the City of Estevan's noise bylaw.
EPS members conducted a search of a woman’s residence in accordance with her court-ordered conditions, stemming from drug trafficking charges. The EPS said no items of concern were located during the search.
A report of a suspicious vehicle running for an extended period of time in front of a residence was investigated. On police arrival, the EPS said the vehicle was gone and no further details regarding the type of vehicle or licence plate were available for follow-up.
Police responded to a report of a fraud over $5,000 on March 24. Money was sent through the mail to the fraudster, but with the assistance of Canada Post, the money was intercepted prior to its arrival and the victim did not incur a loss. The matter is under investigation.
Members responded to a report of a man in his underpants on his front lawn. Police attended but he was no longer present and the EPS said nobody responded to attempts to contact the residence. Additional follow-up will be completed.
The EPS responded to a request for a well-being check on a man. He was subsequently located and community services were offered.
Police responded to a report of a girl who was kicked out of her home and is no longer attending school. The EPS said efforts are being made to confirm the youth’s well-being and ensure she has the appropriate resources available.
A complaint of harassing online posts was received March 23. The EPS said the individual posting the information was identified and cautioned regarding the content of their comments.
An attempted scam phone call was reported to the EPS, in which the intended victim was informed that they had a fraudulent purchase on their credit card and needed to provide personal information to deal with the situation. No information was provided. The EPS said the complaint was made for informational purposes only and will be forwarded to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
EPS members attended to a domestic disturbance in progress involving several family members. The EPS said police mediated the situation and arranged for the two involved siblings to remain separated for the night.
Members observed a boarded-up building in the east end was insecure during night shift. The building was cleared to ensure nobody was present and the property owner will be followed up with to replace boards that had been removed.
