WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service has announced charges against seven people as a result of an ongoing drug investigation.
According to a WPS news release, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on March 25, the WPS Drug Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Weyburn Police Service patrol division, initiated a traffic stop on a truck as it entered the city limits on Highway 39.
Five individuals were located in the vehicle and all were arrested for possession for the purposes of trafficking.
Upon arrest, the WPS said police located 13.6 grams of fentanyl, six cellphones, a pair of brass knuckles, $105 cash and drug-use paraphernalia.
In addition, a search warrant was obtained and executed for the involved vehicle and a residence in Weyburn. The WPS said police located and seized the following from the vehicle: a paint can with a false bottom altered to hide items; 14 grams of fentanyl; 27.4 grams of cocaine; 27.7 grams of methamphetamine; working digital scales; drug use and trafficking paraphernalia; and weapons including knives, a collapsible baton and a taser.
As for the residence, the WPS said members located weapons including a machete, a collapsible baton, and an imitation revolver; score sheets; working digital scales; four cellphones; drug use and trafficking paraphernalia; and three high value tools believed to have been stolen from a CP Rail truck.
In total, the WPS says it located 27.6 grams of fentanyl with a street value of approximately $11,000, 27.4 grams of cocaine with a street value of approximately $4,500, and 27.7 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $1,600.
The WPS reports the following individuals have been charged:
Five people from Weyburn – 52-year-old Jeffery Wagner, Cody Beers (32), Neressa Aspen (29), Keigan Jasper (22) and Jesse Hoskins (40) – have been charged with three counts each of possession for the purpose of trafficking, with one count each for cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Wagner is also charged with three counts of trafficking, with one each for cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine; one count of possession of weapons (a machete, collapsible baton and imitation revolver); and one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Aspen is also charged with one count of possession of a weapon (a taser);
Jasper is also charged with one count of possession of a weapon (brass knuckles) and one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Hoskins is also charged with one count of fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking. He was also found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Weyburn for failing to appear in court.
In addition, at approximately 4:25 p.m. on March 25, the WPS said members were called to a possible break-in at the residence searched in relation to this incident. Upon arrival, the WPS reported officers located one individual in the basement of the residence and another attempting to flee upon noticing police. Both individuals, 44-year-old Gregory Monteyne and 32-year-old Jessie Pattyson, were charged with one count each of break and enter to a residence.
All seven have been remanded into custody and will be in court on March 31.
