SASKATOON — Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s annual honour ceremonies shine a spotlight on the hard work, resilience and academic accomplishments of Indigenous students across our campuses. Presented by SaskTel, this year’s celebration embraced the theme Aen fitchur tissay avik la fierte, “a future woven with pride” in Michif, reflecting the strength, identity and determination that students carry with them as they pursue their goals.
For over 35 years, Sask Polytech has gathered students, families, Elders and community members to celebrate this milestone in a meaningful and culturally grounded way. “Our honour ceremonies remind us how deeply connected success is to community,” says Deanna Kematch, director of wītōkamāhtōtān Indigenous Student Success. “These events lift our students and acknowledge the dedication behind their achievements. We’re grateful for the support of our sponsors, SaskTel and Nutana Machine, who help make these celebrations possible.”

“SaskTel is honored to be the presenting sponsor of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Indigenous Students’ Honour Ceremonies because we believe in fostering opportunities, celebrating achievements and supporting the future leaders of Saskatchewan’s Indigenous communities. By recognizing the dedication and success of these students, we reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation, education and building a more inclusive province for all,” says Charlene Gavel, SaskTel President and CEO.

Each campus hosts an in-person ceremony featuring a shared meal, cultural performances and presentations for participating Indigenous students. Elders, local dignitaries and Sask Polytech leaders attend to offer encouragement and to recognize the personal and academic journeys of students. Family members, friends and community supporters are welcomed as an important part of the celebration.

Through these honour ceremonies, Sask Polytech reinforces its commitment to fostering miyo wâhkôhtowin (good relationships) and creating learning environments where Indigenous students feel respected, supported and empowered to succeed.
