REGINA — What looks like a showcase of imaginative children’s playhouses at the Regina Spring Home Show is, in reality, something much bigger. It is a community-driven effort to help Saskatchewan families build a place to call home.
Project Playhouse, a fundraiser led by Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan in partnership with the Regina and Region Home Builders’ Association, brings together local builders, students, and businesses to design and construct one-of-a-kind children’s playhouses. This year, seven creations are on display, each one built with care and purpose.
“This fundraiser is called Project Playhouse. We had seven businesses sign up and they all designed and built their own playhouse, with all the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan,” explained brand and marketing manager Tessa Kozun.
Participating groups include 1080 Architecture, All Weather At Home, Windsor Plywood, Scott Collegiate, North Ridge Development, Nu-Fab Building Products, and a joint effort from Collaborative Construction and Fries Tallman. Each playhouse reflects a unique vision, from whimsical designs to detailed craftsmanship, drawing crowds throughout the weekend.
But beyond the creativity lies a clear mission.
“All of the playhouses are here for sale, so everybody could bid on one if they would like to take one home,” Kozun said. “And you can also vote for your favourite for one dollar per vote to crown the winner of Project Playhouse.”
Every dollar raised goes directly toward Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan’s work across the province, helping families access safe, affordable housing through its unique homeownership model. Habitat builds and sells homes to qualifying families with affordable mortgages, allowing them to build equity and long-term stability.
Habitat for Humanity has a long history of mobilizing volunteers, donors and community partners to address housing needs. In Saskatchewan, that impact stretches across both urban centres and smaller communities, where access to affordable housing can be especially limited.
Events like Project Playhouse play a critical role in making that work possible.
“We are so grateful to all of the businesses who went above and beyond with this project and this fundraiser,” Kozun expressed. “We couldn’t have done it without them.”
The Regina Spring Home Show runs until 5 p.m. on March 29, giving visitors a final chance to bid on a playhouse or cast their vote. The winning playhouse and the raffle winner will be announced on Monday, March 30.
“Hopefully we raise a lot of funds for Habitat this weekend,” Kozun said.
