REGINA — The City of Regina is working on maintaining roads with the latest snow dumping on Monday.
Daryl Massier, City of Regina roadways seasonal operations manager, said the city is currently focused on ice control on main roads.
“Our focus is on our [category] one to three roads … So all of our major roads are major collectors, hospital routes, those types of roads, high speeds, like Ring Road.”
When zero-three cm of snow falls, the city will apply a sand and salt mixture.
“Sand and salt are applied selectively on sections of roads, including intersections, bridges, ramps and merging lanes, curves, in front of schools and at intersections,” notes the city’s website.
Forecasts had predicted the city could receive upwards of 10-15 cm of snow, but Massier said they haven’t come close to seeing that amount.
“We’re sitting about three to four centimetres.”
If the city receives five cm of snow, the city will plow Category 1 to Category 3 roads. Additionally, Regina’s snow route will come into effect.
Massier said it’s unlikely the city will enforce snow routes.
“At this point, we’re not predicting the snow roads to be put in place.”
Overall, Massier said this has been an average winter season for Regina.
“From our experience, so this has been, I would say a typical winter, a typical to maybe a bit less for winter
