A piece of carrot cake.
Many of us are familiar with the expression “you can’t have your cake and eat it too.” That was certainly true for an 80 year old British Columbia man who had what could be a record setting birthday cake that he certainly couldn’t finish.
Cafe owner Ted Martindale of Quesnel, BC recently celebrated his 80th birthday with the help of several local bakeries who all pitched in to make him a HUGE carrot cake for his birthday. Some 430 individual cakes were made before being assembled together into one giant cake with a tremendous amount of icing required.
According to a CBC News report, the cake measures 5.8 meters by 5.8 meters (17 feet by 17 feet) and contains 800 kilograms of carrots (1760lbs), 317kg’s of butter (700lbs), and several thousand eggs all whipped together to make the milestone birthday cake.
Is it a record setting cake? Uncertain at this time, however Guinness World Records says the current record for a carrot cake belongs to a bakery in Surrey, BC where a 4,500 pound cake was made in 2016.
Bon Appetite.
