As everyone has heard, the war in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is dramatically impacting the prices of oil and nitrogen fertilizer. An impact that hasn’t received much attention is sulfur. Sulfur is a by-product of oil refining and the Middle East is a major supplier. Western Canada has ample stocks of elemental sulfur, but world prices have risen dramatically. That is increasing costs for many products beyond sulfur fertilizer.
Kevin Hursh of SaskAgToday.com talked to Mario Gaudet who is senior account manager for BiziSul, an elemental sulfur supplier based in Blackfalds, Alberta.
