ESTEVAN — Jesse Robert Young averted a trial by pleading guilty to one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking April 6 in Estevan Court of King’s Bench.
According to information provided in court, Young was arrested on Jan. 31, 2023, in Estevan, and was charged accordingly.
Federal Crown prosecutor Alexander Deacon told the court that Young was charged after a search warrant was executed at a residence in Estevan, for the purpose of locating prohibited devices related to a firearms offence.
“Jesse Young was the occupant of the residence during the execution of the search warrant and was identified as the sole occupant of that residence," Deacon said.
During a search of the residence, Deacon said investigators located approximately 260 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine, along with items related to drug trafficking.
A trial by judge and jury was supposed to begin that morning with jury selection, and the trial was to last until April 10.
A joint submission is expected for sentencing, which is scheduled for May 27. Young is out on conditions.
