ESTEVAN — An attempted traffic stop in Estevan resulted in drug trafficking charges against two people.
According to a news release from the Estevan Police Service (EPS), in the early evening hours of April 2, the EPS received a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed while approaching Estevan on Highway 39.
A member of the EPS Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan attended to the area, police said, and observed the vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit.
An attempt to conduct a traffic stop was unsuccessful, the EPS said, as the vehicle failed to stop for police, and it fled the scene at a high rate of speed. According to the EPS, a pursuit was not initiated, but the vehicle’s licence plate was obtained and a short time later, the vehicle was located near a residence in south Estevan.
A traffic stop was subsequently initiated, which the EPS said resulted in the arrest of four occupants. During the ensuring investigation, a search of the vehicle occurred and officers also executed of a search warrant at a related property, which resulted in the seizure of a prohibited firearm and evidence of drug trafficking.
Joshua Warn, age 34, of Moose Jaw, and Jade Loucks, 39, of Moose Jaw, are both charged with one count each of possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, trafficking methamphetamine and flight from police. Warn is also charged with failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking.
Both were remanded to attend Estevan Provincial Court on April 6. Loucks was subsequently released on conditions and will be back in court on Estevan charges on April 20. Warn was remanded in custody to appear in Weyburn Provincial Court on April 7.
