REGINA — Regina’s chief financial officer (CFO) is leaving the city on his own terms.
The City of Regina has confirmed deputy city manager and CFO Daren Anderson has resigned.
Anderson first joined the city in Jan. 2025, replacing former CFO Barry Lacey, who retired in 2024.
In his first two years as CFO, Anderson and city administration presented more accountable and transparent budgets with higher mill rate increases of 7.33 per cent in 2025, and 10.9 per cent in 2026.
Anderson also helped work with city council through more in-depth meetings to help local politicians and the public better understand how budget decisions were made.
“Daren [Anderson] brought extraordinary expertise to his role and was instrumental in navigating two challenging budget cycles. We thank him for his hard work and wish him the best in his new opportunity,” said the city in a statement.
The city did not confirm when Anderson will be officially leaving. However, both Anderson and the city have worked on a transition plan to ensure continuity and stability.
This is the second high-ranking city official to leave within the past year.
In July 2025, former city manager Niki Anderson was fired for unknown reasons.
Since her firing, Jim Nicol was appointed as acting city manager, and a replacement for Anderson still hasn’t been found.
