The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has added a familiar face to its leadership group, announcing the hiring of Nick Shumlanski as Director of Marketing and Partnerships.
A native of Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Shumlanski brings both professional experience and a deep-rooted connection to the league. An SJHL alumnus, he suited up from 2015 to 2018 with the Flin Flon Bombers and Humboldt Broncos, appearing in 175 regular-season games and 43 playoff contests while totaling 173 points across both.
Following his playing career, Shumlanski built a background in business and marketing, earning a diploma in Business Administration (Marketing) from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and attending the University of Prince Edward Island while competing in U SPORTS. Professionally, he has worked with Harvard Media and most recently with Wellington-Altus Private Wealth.
SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre says the league is gaining someone who understands its impact both on and off the ice.
“Nick’s energy, passion, and genuine love for the SJHL make him an exciting addition,” McIntyre said. “As a former player, he understands how this league shapes character and work ethic, and that perspective will be invaluable in this role.”
For Shumlanski, the opportunity represents a full-circle moment.
“It’s an honour to step into this role and give back to a league that gave so much to me,” he said. “I’m excited to get back into the rinks, connect with teams, partners, and fans, and help continue to grow the SJHL brand.”
Shumlanski officially joins the league on April 13, where he will begin engaging with existing partners while also working to expand new opportunities across the SJHL landscape.
Recognized as one of Canada’s premier Junior A leagues, the SJHL continues to focus on player development while maintaining strong ties to the communities it serves—and with Shumlanski’s addition, that connection is only expected to grow stronger.
