Regina Rams running back Marshall Erichsen and Cougars track and field athlete Shelaine Pritchard were named the University of Regina’s top athletes at the school’s annual Varsity Sport Awards.
Erichsen was named male athlete of the year after a standout 2025 Canada West season in which he rushed for 1,121 yards and 12 touchdowns on 176 carries in nine games. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry and 124.6 rushing yards per game, while adding 29 receptions for 283 yards and one touchdown.
Pritchard earned female athlete of the year honours after winning gold in the pentathlon at the USports track and field championships in March.
Cara Misskey received the President’s Award, given annually to the student-athlete who best combines superior athletic achievement with a high level of academic performance over their varsity career. The award requires a minimum 70 per cent cumulative grade-point average.
Rams kicker Ty Gorniak was named male rookie of the year after an impressive debut season in 2025.
Gorniak connected on 23 of 30 field-goal attempts, including a long of 44 yards, and added 30 converts to finish with 99 points in 10 games.
Cougars women's hockey goalie Amy Swayze was named female rookie of the year after posting a .935 save percentage along with a 6-10-2 record.
And the coach of the year award went to interim women’s basketball head coach Michaela Kleisinger, who guided the Cougars to a 17-3 regular season record and second place in the conference's Prairie Division.
