GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. — Saskatchewan’s Cathy Inglis is coming home with the bronze medal from the Canadian Master’s Curling Championship.
Inglis and her Yorkton foursome of third Joan McCusker, second Patsy Kuspira and lead Bev Fuches took a 8-4 victory over Manitoba’s Team Colwell in the third-place game on Sunday afternoon at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.
Inglis had naturally hoped to find herself playing in the gold medal final instead, but an 8-7 loss to Alberta’s Team Bakker in the semifinal on Sunday morning saw that opportunity fall by the wayside.
That contest saw Inglis leading 1-0 through two ends when Bakker put up a deuce in the third and stole three the next end for a 5-1 lead. Inglis got one back the next end, but another three spot for Alberta gave them an 8-2 lead with two ends to play. Saskatchewan wouldn’t go quietly, though, getting a bunch back with four in the seventh and then falling just short of the comeback with a steal of one in the eighth.
Things were much different in the bronze medal game against Manitoba, as Inglis scored three in the first end, gave up a deuce in the second and then picked up another three in the third to lead 6-2. The teams then exchanged single points the next three ends to see Saskatchewan up 7-4 after sixth, and Inglis would close out the contest and the medal win with a single point in the eighth.
Ontario’s Team Chilvers scored points in the final four ends to defeat Alberta’s Bakker 7-4 for gold.

Weyburn’s Jim Nikolejsin will be coming home with an eighth place finish in the men’s draw at the Canadian Masters Curling Championship.
Nikolejsin and his rink of third Jaime Miller, second Ray Calbow and lead Darcy Cretin began their week by posting a 2-3 record in Pool B, picking up a win in their final round robin game to finish fourth and advance to the championship pool.
There, Saskatchewan picked up one more win in four games, finishing 3-6 overall.
Ontario’s Team Cochrane scored a pair in the eighth end to take a 7-6 win over Alberta’s Team Balderston in the gold medal game. B.C.’s Team Craig put up a four-ender in the fifth to overcome an early deficit and take an 8-6 win over Manitoba’s Team Neufeld in the bronze medal game.
