ESTEVAN — A man is in custody after he was charged with uttering threats.
According to the April 10 report for the Estevan Police Service, members were called to an apartment complex for a report of a man threatening to shoot an individual. The EPS said an investigation resulted in an Estevan man being arrested for uttering threats. As the individual was the subject of multiple recent criminal charges and had already been released on conditions, he was remanded into custody to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on April 13.
In other recent police news, a theft from a motor vehicle occurred in the 700-block of Third Street. The EPS said personal items and Canadian currency were taken. The EPS said the incident occurred April 6 and it was in the April 10 police report. An investigation is ongoing, and the EPS reminds the public to secure their vehicles and to not leave personal items inside.
Police issued several tickets April 10 for unregistered vehicles parked on a public street or highway. The EPS reminds the public that valid registration is required to park a vehicle on city streets.
The EPS received a report of breaching the peace. The complainant provided a statement and the EPS says the matter is under investigation.
Staff at a local grocery store reported two people paying for groceries with a counterfeit $100 bill. Statements and a review of video surveillance are pending and the the EPS says the matter remains under investigation.
A 911 call was received, as two people could be heard physically fighting in the background. The caller’s location was identified and members were dispatched to the residence, where the EPS said they located two siblings that had been fighting, along with a younger sibling that had placed the 911 call. The parents were located at the residence, and notified about the call and concerns for the youths' behaviour. No further police involvement was necessary.
Police received a report of two dogs barking for an extended period of time at a local apartment building. Members attended, located the animals causing a disturbance, and determined that the owner was out of town. The EPS said the owner was contacted and arrangements were made to have a third party attend to take care of the canines.
The EPS assisted the Estevan Fire Rescue Service and Estevan Leisure Services with an alarm at the Power Dodge Curling Centre during the Estevan Strippers’ cabaret. The matter was resolved for the evening and the EPS said no danger to the public existed.
A driving complaint was received regarding a vehicle that was located unoccupied in south Estevan. The EPS says the matter remains under investigation.
Police attended to the cabaret for a request for assistance from security regarding an intoxicated man. He was spoken to and sent home in a cab.
The EPS responded to a local liquor establishment following a report of a fight. When police arrived, there was no fight happening on and the EPS said patrons were not co-operative with investigating members. The matter is still under investigation.
The EPS assisted the owner of a newly-purchased shed prior to it being moved April 11, as the owner believed someone had broken into the structure and was living inside. Nobody was present in the shed at the time, but the EPS said contents did support the belief that someone had been living there. All personal property was removed from the shed and the owner was updated.
Police assisted with a parking complaint in the downtown area. The EPS said the matter was referred to the bylaw enforcement officer for additional follow-up, and the complainant was provided with options for how to deal with the ongoing complaint.
A suspicious man holding a rake near the 1200-block of Fourth Street was reported. The EPS said members patrolled the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided.
Two unrelated assault complaints were received during night shift. The EPS says both matters remain under investigation.
EPS members responded to a complaint April 12 of a man acting strangely in the downtown core. On contact with the individual, the EPS said it was determined he was under the influence of drugs and was arrested for public intoxication. He was lodged in cells to ensure his safety, and will be released once sober and able to care for himself.
Police were dispatched to an area south of Affinity Place in response to a woman walking near the railroad tracks. The EPS said the caller was worried about her safety. She reported that she was just looking for rocks and was not considering self-harm. She left without incident after being informed that the railway tracks are private property and that trespassing could result in a significant fine.
