REGINA — The City of Regina has officially opened driving ranges at Murray Golf Course, Tor Hill Golf Course and Joanne Goulet Golf Course, giving residents their first chance to get back on the green this season.
The openings come as temperatures begin to climb and snow fully clears from the city’s courses, offering golfers an early opportunity to shake off months of inactivity.
“It’s kind of a soft opening,” explained Brian Dueck, head golf professional at Joanne Goulet. “Golfers are excited. If they haven’t played since October, they’re ready to get back at it.”
Throughout the day, players filtered through the range, working through buckets of balls and rediscovering their swing in cooler but improving spring conditions.
A careful return after winter
City officials say opening the driving ranges is an important first step, but full course access will depend on weather and turf conditions in the coming weeks.
“We’re excited to have the driving ranges open,” expressed Allie Kozey, manager of open space services. “It’s nice to see people getting outside again and brushing up on their skills.”
Kozey noted that crews continue to prepare the courses after months of freeze and thaw cycles, which can leave turf vulnerable early in the season.
“Our goal is always to open when the course is healthy and ready for play,” she said. “Not just as early as possible.”
The city is targeting a full course opening later in April, but officials say timing will depend entirely on conditions.
Growing demand for the game
Regina’s municipal courses have seen strong participation in recent years.
City-operated courses are designed to remain affordable and accessible, offering options for beginners, families and experienced players alike.
Driving ranges serve as an entry point for many, allowing residents to ease back into the sport before tee times become available.
“We’ve seen great engagement from the community,” Kozey said. “Whether you’re new to the game or have been playing for years, there’s something for everyone.”
