The President of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) has commented on Ottawa's decision to suspend the federal fuel excise tax on gasoline and diesel from April 20 to September 7 to help consumers and businesses deal with rising prices.
Bill Prybylski says the agriculture industry won't benefit much from it.
He says farm gasoline is only used for grain augers, lawn mowers, and pressure washers.
Prybylski says most farmers use farm diesel fuel, which is already exempt from the federal excise tax.
However, he is pleased to hear that Saskatchewan is reviewing its Farmland Security Act.
He notes there's still concern amongst producers about rumours of foreign ownership of farmland.
Prybylski also welcomes a look at the affordability of farmland, as younger farmers are having trouble getting into the business, or growing their operations.
