The Flin Flon Bombers opened the SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup Final in commanding fashion, skating to a 7-3 win over the Yorkton Terriers Friday night at the Whitney Forum.
Flin Flon wasted little time setting the tone. Just over four minutes in, Landon Alexander—playing only his second game back from injury—pounced on a powerplay opportunity to open the scoring. Nathan Lalumiere followed less than three minutes later to quickly build a 2-0 lead.
Yorkton responded late in the first, as Gabriel Courchesne wired home his fifth of the playoffs off a slick Thomas Ries setup to cut the deficit to 2-1. But the Bombers answered right back, with Wyatt Stinton restoring the two-goal cushion on the powerplay to make it 3-1 after one.
The second period turned into a track meet. Stinton struck again midway through the frame to extend the lead to 4-1, but the Terriers refused to fade. Ries went end-to-end just 32 seconds later for his league-leading eighth of the postseason, and Austin Horbachewsky followed only 33 seconds after that to suddenly make it a one-goal game.
Special Teams and Quick Responses Fuel Flin Flon
Any momentum Yorkton built was short-lived. Just over a minute later, Rhett Ewen buried another Bombers powerplay goal—Flin Flon’s third of the night—to reestablish control at 5-3 heading into the third.
From there, the Bombers shut things down and pulled away late, with Connor Miller and Braydon Bruce adding insurance markers to seal the victory—Flin Flon’s first Game 1 win in a league final since 2016.
Charlie Tritt, the SJHL’s Goalie of the Year, turned aside 32 of 35 shots for the win. At the other end, Callum Creig surrendered four goals on 25 shots before Alexandro Montoya came in relief, stopping 15 of 18.
Game 2 goes Saturday night in Flin Flon before the series shifts to Yorkton for Games 3 and 4 midweek.
