LLOYDMINSTER — A 25-year-old man from Onion Lake is facing multiple charges after Saskatchewan RCMP’s Lloydminster Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) seized cocaine, methamphetamine, and a firearm with a defaced serial number from a motel room.
Mackenzie Cannapotatoe, 25, appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 20, where he was remanded in custody. His case has been transferred to Lloydminster Provincial Court, and he is expected to appear there on May 4 for a show cause hearing.
His charges stem from an incident on April 17, when officers from STRT were conducting proactive patrols on 44th Street in Lloydminster, Sask. They spotted a man outside a motel who was known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant. Officers approached him and advised him he was under arrest, at which point the man fled on foot. He was located a short time later, and a small amount of methamphetamine and cocaine was found during his arrest.
The police investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for a room at the same motel. Inside, they located and seized approximately 28 grams of cocaine, 32 grams of methamphetamine, a firearm with its serial number removed, and ammunition.
Cannapotatoe has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine and methamphetamine), resisting a peace officer, seven counts of failing to comply with a release order conditions, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm with an altered or defaced serial number, unlicensed possession of a firearm, unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition, and unsafe storage of a firearm.
He was also arrested on outstanding warrants and for breaching a Conditional Sentence Order.
