REGINA — The City of Regina expects tourism to make positive gains in 2026.
Jennifer Johnson, deputy city manager of communications, Service Regina, & tourism, on Monday, said the city has won a number of key events this year.
“We have some fun things happening, like the Foo Fighters concert. We've had really good lineups at the Globe Theatre,” she noted
Regina saw tourism in 2025 help generate over $135 million in economic impact., according to a report. In the span of 41 events, over 170,000 visitors descended on the Queen City.
This year, Regina is expected to host over 100 events, including sports competitions, conferences, trade shows, and more, said the Regina Hotel Association.
These events have led to an increase in hotel bookings
Johnson said their department is hearing positive feedback on the spin-off of more events in the city, as visitor spending is projected to increase in 2025.
“We’ve really seen Tourism moving in the right direction in Regina.”
Johnson highlighted Regina’s strength in hosting events is the proximity to different venues.
“If you choose Regina as a destination, you can visit the RSM [Royal Saskatchewan Museum], the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the RCMP Heritage Centre, and all of those are very close to each other. "
Rising fuel prices have prompted concerns about their impact on local tourism.
However, Johnson said she is not worried at this time.
“We have seen just generally lots of things have gotten more expensive, whether it's food, fuel, etc but what we've seen is Regina is still quite an affordable destination to travel to.”
She added, “hardly any gas money spent once you're actually here, if you've flown here and you're taking Uber, even those Uber rides are pretty affordable, so you can actually get a lot out of the destination in a few days.”
As 2026 moves along, Johnson isn’t expecting any major event announcement for the rest of the year.
A full report on tourism for 2026 will come out in early 2027.
