SASKATOON — A 36-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle led police on a late-night chase across Saskatoon, ending with a tactical take down on Highway 16.
According to Saskatoon Police Service, officers on routine patrol in the area of 22nd Street West and Avenue I North spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen around 11:30 p.m. on April 25. Officers activated their emergency lights as the suspect travelled northbound on Circle Drive. The driver refused to stop.
Police pursued the vehicle to 45th Street West, where officers were able to use a tire deflation device. Despite the flat tires, the driver continued to evade police.
Officers then used a police vehicle to bring the suspect vehicle to a stop on Highway 16. . Officers from the Saskatoon Police Service and Corman Park Police Service observed three occupants inside the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not comply with police commands and a conducted energy weapon (CEW) was discharged by police.
All three occupants were then arrested without further incident. Officers observed what were believed to be self-inflicted injuries on the driver of the vehicle and provided life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and transported the man to hospital for further medical treatment.
The 36-year-old man has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and three counts of breaching court-imposed conditions.
