ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service is investigating the recent theft of a quad and other items.
According to the April 24 police report, members received a report of a stolen quad. The vehicle was later located and processed. An investigation is ongoing.
The EPS added officers also learned that other property owners in the undisclosed area had also experienced thefts but had not reported them. Members remind the public that reporting thefts is important, as incidents may be linked.
In other recent police news, members responded to an April 23 request from St. Joseph’s Hospital staff to conduct a well-being check on a woman who had left the hospital without permission. The EPS said officers located the individual and successfully convinced her to return to the hospital for treatment.
Police also responded to a request from probation services to arrest a youth who was not complying with court-imposed conditions. The individual was located, arrested and later released into the care of a responsible adult.
Additionally, members received two separate Report Impaired Driver (RID) line calls. During the second incident, the EPS said officers located the suspect vehicle and observed signs of impairment in the motorist. A standardized field sobriety test (SFST) demand was issued and the driver was transported to the police station for testing. According to the EPS, she failed the SFST and was arrested for impaired driving. The accused was then taken to the hospital, where blood samples were obtained for further analysis.
Police conducted a well-being check April 24 at the request of the RCMP, who initially received the request but determined the individual resided within the city. The EPS reported officers attended and confirmed the individual was safe.
Officers received a report of criminal harassment. The complainant stated an individual was posting links to public documents. The EPS said sharing public information does not constitute criminal harassment unless it occurs repeatedly.
Police received a report of an assault that occurred the previous night. Officers attended and obtained a statement from the victim. The EPS says the matter is under investigation.
Members responded to a break and enter at a local business. Officers cleared the building and obtained video surveillance. One suspect was identified, arrested a short time later and lodged in cells. The EPS said members are working to identify three additional suspects involved.
Police also responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a local storage facility. Upon arrival, the EPS said officers determined the individual was accessing their own rented storage unit. The complainant was updated.
Members received a transferred 911 call April 25 involving an open line. The EPS said latitude and longitude co-ordinates were provided, and officers determined the call originated from two employees travelling back to the city who left their work phone in a cooler. The phone is believed to have dialled accidentally. All parties were confirmed to be safe.
Police received a report of a suspicious person. The EPS said officers attended and located the individual across the street from the reported location. The individual was identified and sent on their way.
Members were notified of a couple more assaults. The EPS said both incidents remain under investigation.
Police received a report of a theft involving a delivered package. The EPS said it is also under investigation.
Officers received a report of criminal harassment from a resident of the U.S. The EPS said the individual alleged to be responsible resides in Estevan. The matter remains under investigation.
Police received several reports April 26 of erratic drivers. Officers located the vehicles involved, and the EPS said motorists were spoken to and warned regarding their driving behaviour.
Police received a report of a suspicious male riding a bicycle in the west industrial area. The EPS said officers attended and conducted patrols in the area.
Police received a report of a break and enter at a residence. Officers attended but the EPS said the suspect had left prior to their arrival. The matter remains under investigation.
