The monster ends just keep on coming for Saskatoon’s Bruce Korte and his Team Canada rink at the senior men’s world curling championship in Geneva, Switzerland.
After opening the event with wins of 16-2 over Nigeria and 9-2 over Slovenia, Canada came up Tuesday morning against skip Ansis Regza and Latvia – the only other unbeaten team in its pool to that point.
But despite giving up stolen points in the third and sixth ends, Korte still cruised to an early victory after scoring four in the fourth end and three more in the seventh.
That led to the handshakes before the final end could be played, Latvia conceding a 9-4 defeat to Korte, third Darrell McKee, second Kory Kohuch and lead Rory Golanowski – who improved to 3-0 with the win.
Not one of Canada’s games has far gone the full eight ends, and six times in 20 ends played to date has Korte scored at least three points.
His rink has twice opened games with a five-ender, and also managed a steal of four against Nigeria in its opening match.
Canada’s next game is scheduled for Thursday at 4 a.m. (or 12 noon Geneva time) against the undefeated Latvians, led by skip Ansis Regza.
