WEYBURN — A incident that involved uttering death threats was among the 65 calls for service for the Weyburn Police Service from April 19-26.
According to the WPS weekly report, on April 21, a highly-agitated man attended the police station. During the interaction, the WPS said the man reportedly threatened to kill two other men. Before officers were able to arrest him under the Mental Health Act, he left the office.
The WPS added officers later went to his residence, where he refused to exit the home. Due to public safety concerns, police said members contained the residence until he was taken into custody. During the arrest, the WPS said the man resisted and one officer sustained an injury.
The man was transported to hospital to be assessed by a physician. Once medically cleared, the WPS said he was lodged in cells and later remanded to appear in Weyburn Provincial Court on April 28.
In other recent news, on April 24, two separate businesses reported that someone had drilled a hole into the gas tanks of work trucks and stole fuel. As this is what the WPS called an “unusual” type of fuel theft, police asks anyone who has experienced a similar incident to report it. The WPS said these investigations remain ongoing.
On April 26, police were called to a parking lot for a report of a possible impaired driver preparing to leave. The WPS said officers located the vehicle running in the parking lot with a man behind the wheel.
An approved screening device demand was made, but the WPS said the man failed to provide a breath sample. He was arrested, charged with refusal and lodged in cells until sober. He was later released with a future court appearance.
