LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. — A man is in custody following a robbery in the R. M. of Britannia that escalated into a stolen vehicle investigation and a rush hour traffic stop.
Alberta RCMP say that on April 29 a robbery occurred between two people known to each other. It was reported a man, armed with a weapon, stole the victim’s vehicle after assaulting him.
Later that same day, around 5 p.m., Lloydminster RCMP located the stolen vehicle near 36 Street and 52 Avenue in Lloydminster. Police conducted a coordinated traffic stop and safely arrested the suspect that was driving the stolen vehicle and linked to the robbery.
Christopher Luipersbeck, 38, of Lloydminster, has been charged with robbery and using a forged document. Luipersbeck appeared before a justice and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster, Sask., Provincial Court on May 4.
Lloydminster RCMP had assistance from Alberta RCMP’s Real Time Operation Centre (RTOC). The RTOC, which operates around the clock out of Edmonton K Division headquarters, tracks suspects in real time and provides officers on the ground instant support during emergency situations.
Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section and RCMP Police Dog Services also assisted in the investigation.
