LLOYDMINSTER — A 35-year-old Lloydminster man is facing multiple charges after police uncovered a stolen property trafficking operation tied to a series of break-and-enters at local construction sites.
Lloydminster RCMP CRU began an investigation on April 28 after several local active construction sites reported break and enters where property was stolen. Lloydminster RCMP were alerted to the sale of suspected stolen property via an online platform. Lloydminster CRU, with the assistance the public and Lloydminster RCMP Detachment, identified a suspect.
Lloydminster RCMP officers observed the suspect conduct a sale of some suspected stolen property in the area of 31 Street and 57 Avenue. He was then arrested. Following his arrest, police confirmed the male had exchanged one of the items reported as stolen for cash.
Once he was in custody, Lloydminster RCMP CRU obtained and executed a search warrant at his home. He was charged with possession of property valued over $5,000 obtained by crime for the purposes of trafficking, possession of property valued under $5,000 obtained by crime, and two counts of trafficking in stolen property under $5,000.
He was brought before a Justice of the Peace for a hearing and was released from custody. He will appear next in court on May 19 in the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster.
During this search, police recovered nearly $16,000 in stolen property. Lloydminster RCMP are working to return the property to their rightful owners. To date, police have been able to return much of the stolen property to involved local businesses.
Lloydminster RCMP would like to remind Albertans to secure their property, keep it out of plain sight, and not left in a vehicle or unattended.
Lloydminster RCMP investigation remains ongoing.
