REGINA – Opposition New Democrats are touting a new poll that they claim shows the race in a dead heat with the Saskatchewan Party government.
According to the new Insightrix poll of 612 decided voters commissioned by the NDP, the results show the NDP and Sask Party tied at 45 per cent, with the Sask United at three per cent, the Green Party at two, and Sask Progress and the Buffalo Party at one per cent each, with the remainder to other parties not listed.
As expected the poll shows the Sask Party ahead in rural Saskatchewan, leading in the south 53-33 per cent and, somewhat surprisingly, in the north region by 58 – 30 per cent. The NDP was shown leading by dominant margins in Saskatoon and Regina by 62-31 and 61-32 per cent respectively.
The NDP were also ahead 52-37 per cent among young voters but were tied 43-43 with voters age 35-54, with the Sask Party leading 53-41 among those age 55 plus.
As well, male respondents favoured the Sask Party 52-41 per cent while women favoured the NDP 49 to 39.
The survey results were expected to be shared with party members on Thursday.
The poll comes soon after an Angus Reid poll that showed good numbers for Premier Scott Moe and the Sask Party compared to the NDP.
According to that Angus Reid survey conducted in March, Moe posted a favorability of 51 per cent of Saskatchrewan residents surveyed compared to 33 for NDP leader Carla Beck.
