BATTLEFORD – A man was sentenced to three years in prison at the Court of King's Bench in Battleford on May 1 for criminal negligence causing death in the death of Teddy Whitehead.
Nathaniel Sakebow pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death.
A charge of manslaughter was stayed by the Crown.
Katherine Gratrix acted for the Crown, Meagan Bortis for the Defence, with Justice J.P. Morrall presiding in the case.
Sakebow, now 35, from Edmonton, Alta., was arrested in 2023 in the death of of 38-year-old Teddy Whitehead at a home on Witchekan Lake First Nation on July, 15, 2023.
Sakebow also pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm for a separate incident on Feb. 8, 2025, on Witchekan Lake First Nation.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated assault.
For the charge of assault causing bodily harm he was sentenced to two years in prison consecutive.
When factoring in time already served, in total Sakebow has 584 days or about 18 months left to serve.
