REGINA — Two people are facing several charges, including drug trafficking and identity fraud, after a late-night attempted traffic stop on April 30.
According to Regina Police Service, at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday night, officers patrolling in the North Central area of the city, in the 5th Avenue and Garnet Street observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Officers didn’t pursue the vehicle but attempted to follow from a distance.
The driver ran a red light at 7th Avenue and Lewvan Drive, before heading west on Lewvan Drive. Officers attempted a traffic stop near Regina Avenue but the driver didn’t stop. A short time later, officers in another car observed the suspect vehicle pulling into the parking lot of a business on Harvard Way.
Police seized a quantity of methamphetamine, items associated with drug trafficking, and bear spray.
The driver, a 44-year-old man, was taken into custody without further incident. The forty-year-old woman passenger fled the scene and, following a short foot chase and a brief struggle, she was taken into custody.
They appeared in Regina court on May 1.
