BOUCHERVILLE, Que. — Saskatchewan’s Marie Wright foursome saw their perfect run come to an end at the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship on Friday afternoon, but they’ll still have another chance to advance to the gold medal game.
Wright and her Moose Jaw foursome of third Gil Dash, second Moose Gibson, lead Pete Andrews and coach Ben Gamble dropped a 5-2 decision to Quebec’s Carl Marquis in the Page Playoff 1-2 game and as a result will now drop down to the semifinal on Saturday morning.
Things were close in the early going, as Quebec picked up a single point in the first end and Saskatchewan blanked the second before tying things up in the third.
That all changed in the fourth end, though, as Marquis picked up the only deuce of the game and then stole single points the next two ends to make it a 5-1 contest. Wright got one back in the seventh but would run out of rocks in the eighth.
Quebec has been on a stellar run from start to finish, having won seven straight and seeing only one game closer than three points. Saskatchewan has nearly been their equal having won all six of their games leading up to the Page 1-2 contest.
Saskatchewan will face a familiar opponent in the semifinal as they take on perennial medal contender and defending champion Douglas Dean out of Northern Ontario at 8 a.m. Saskatchewan time.
The winner there will take on Quebec for gold at 12 p.m.
