REGINA — Police are investigating four separate incidents involving bladed weapons reported across the city since Friday, leaving four men injured, including one with serious cuts.
The first incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on May 1. Officers were called to the 1900 block of Scarth Street for a report of an injured person. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground who had a deep laceration to his hand and appeared to have been bear sprayed. He told police he had been attacked by a group of teenage males. The man was taken to hospital by EMS where he was treated for his injuries, which appeared to be non-life-threatening.
Just 20 minutes later, at approximately 5:20 a.m. on May 1, officers were called to the hospital for a report of a man who had arrived in the ER with lacerations on his hand. The victim told police he and his friends were in Victoria Park when they were approached by a man who had a machete. The suspect swung the weapon at the victim, hitting him in the hands. The suspect fled the scene. The victim was taken to hospital by his friends to be treated for his injuries.
At this time, both occurrences are under investigation. It is unknown if they are related.
The next day, on May 2, at approximately 3 a.m., officers were called to the area of 5thAvenue and Athol Street for a report of an injured male. When officers arrived, they located a man who had several large lacerations to his upper body. EMS took him to the hospital to be treated for the injuries, which appeared to be serious, but non-life-threatening. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Then, at approximately 1:40 a.m. on May 4, officers were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Elphinstone Street for a report of a weapons offence. When officers arrived, they located a man sitting on the steps who had been bear sprayed and was suffering from a laceration to his head. The victim was taken to hospital by EMS to be treated for his injuries, which appeared to be non-life-threating.
