LLOYDMINSTER, Alta. — RCMP are asking for the public’s help after locating several Hyundai vehicles in Lloydminster were damaged in what investigators believe were attempted thefts.
Police say that on April 30, multiple residents reported similar incidents in which a window was smashed to gain entry to a vehicle. In each case, the suspect(s) appeared to be trying to steal the vehicle after breaking in. No other vehicle brands have been targeted so far, say police.
Lloydminster RCMP are urging the public to take preventative measures to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of this type of crime.
Residents are encouraged to:
-Consider steering column lock mechanisms (ie/‘The Club’);
-Ensure vehicles are always locked;
-Do not leave valuables or keys inside vehicles;
-Keep things out of sight, and/or secured and locked in glove box or in the trunk;
-Consider installing front and rear dash cameras;
-Consider installing surveillance security cameras on your personal property where the vehicle is parked;
-Consider installing aftermarket immobilizers and/or GPS tracking devices;
-Park in well-lit areas when possible; and
-Report any suspicious persons or activity immediately to your local police.
