MELFORT — A man has been charged with manslaughter after a weekend homicide in Melfort.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Homicide Investigation Unit has charged a man following a weekend altercation that resulted in the death of a second man.
On May 2 at around 12 p.m., Melfort RCMP received a report of an assault with a weapon at an apartment on the 100 block of Broadway Avenue South in Melfort.
The initial investigation has determined an altercation occurred between two men in the apartment. During the altercation, one of the men stabbed the other. The injured man was transported to the hospital by EMS, where he later died.
As a result of the continued investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Homicide Investigation Unit, 43-year-old Tom Cook, of Melfort, is charged with one count, manslaughter, and three counts, failure to comply with a release order in relation to the death of 36-year-old Sam Stonestand, of Melfort.
Cook was scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on May 4 at 9:30 a.m.
