ESTEVAN — An arrest for impaired driving was part of a busy few days for members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS).
According to the May 2 police report, while on patrol, an EPS member conducted a traffic stop for a speeding violation. Upon contact with the driver, the EPS said signs of impairment were observed, which resulted in an approved screening device breath sample being obtained. The result was a fail.
The EPS reported a 30-year-old man from Coronach was arrested for impaired driving and was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a demand to provide a breath sample. He was lodged in cells until sober, the EPS said, and will be released with a court date in June to speak to the charges. He was also issued a ticket for exceeding the posted speed limit.
In other recent police news, members responded to the Estevan Leisure Centre parking lot May 1 for a report of suspicious people. The EPS said the caller was concerned individuals were attempting to gain access to vehicles. On arrival, several youths were located and it was determined they were searching for a lost cellphone. No criminal activity was identified, the EPS said, and no further police involvement was required.
A report came in of the theft of a bicycle from a backyard in the 1200-block of Third Street. The EPS said the matter is under investigation.
Police were dispatched to an apartment complex for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress. Members attended and both parties were spoken to. The EPS said it was determined that the issue was a loud verbal argument but no physical violence had occurred. One of the individuals involved arranged to stay at a separate location for the night and no additional concerns were reported during the remainder of the shift.
A theft of a mattress from a travel camper was received and remains under investigation. The EPS said the theft is believed to have occurred between December 2025 and May. No damage was done to the camper when the item was stolen.
A report came in May 2 of an all-terrain vehicle operating in a north Estevan residential area. The EPS said members attended the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or its operator.
EPS members attended to a report of a dog being left alone in a vehicle during warm weather. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and the EPS said it was determined that the vehicle had been left running with the air conditioner active. No concern for the animal’s well-being existed.
A request came in to keep the peace while two individuals exchanged property.
A hit-and-run collision was reported to have occurred in the Pleasantdale area. The EPS said video surveillance was obtained, which shows the offending vehicle back into the parked vehicle and then drive away. The matter remains under investigation.
EPS members responded to a residence in south Estevan for a report of a domestic disturbance. Members attended and determined a verbal argument had occurred, but the EPS said there wasn't any physical violence. One of the parties left the residence for the night.
A noisy party was reported in the 1200-block of Seventh Street. Members attended and the homeowner was warned under the City of Estevan noise bylaw.
EPS members were called to assist a local cab company with a customer refusing to pay their fare. As a result of the investigation, the EPS said a 44-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication and the cab fare was remitted to the driver.
While on patrol, members observed a significant amount of garbage present on a parking lot in northeast Estevan. Through contact with several youths on scene, the EPS said individuals responsible were identified and tickets are pending for littering.
A collision at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Fifth Street on May 3 resulted in both vehicles being towed from the scene. The EPS said two occupants of one of the vehicles had minor injuries. Following the investigation, a ticket for proceeding from a stop sign before it was safe to do so was issued to the offending driver.
A report of criminal harassment and mischief to a vehicle was received during day shift. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
EPS members responded to a report of several suspicious vehicles in a business parking lot during night shift. One of the vehicles drove away prior to police arrival, but it was located a short distance away. The EPS said a traffic stop determined the occupants had been dropping off the second vehicle at the business for work to be done and nothing criminal or concerning had occurred. The complainant was updated.
