WEYBURN — A couple of thefts were among the 106 calls for service for the Weyburn Police Service (WPS) during the week of April 26-May 3.
Police received a report April 29 of a theft at the Weyburn General Hospital, in which two individuals stole computer monitors. The WPS said surveillance footage showed the suspects checking in at admissions before wandering off and removing the monitors from the facility.
The WPS said members later located a man and a woman at a residence in Weyburn. Both individuals, who reside in Indian Head, were arrested and charged accordingly. The stolen monitors were recovered.
Police received a report of a stolen older-style boat and trailer April 27 from the Circle 6 Motel parking lot. The WPS said the silver and red fishing boat was equipped with a 25-horsepower Evinrude motor (ID: 1-G-2643). The trailer is a Shoreland'r bearing Saskatchewan licence plate 642 MRQ. The WPS said an investigation is ongoing.
In other recent WPS news, on May 1, a driver turning left at an intersection failed to yield to a nine-year-old boy in a marked crosswalk, striking the pedestrian. The child sustained what the WPS called minor scrapes and bruises, and was assessed and cleared by EMS. The woman motorist was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
The WPS said it is observing an increase in individuals operating vehicles without a valid driver’s licence, including repeat offenders driving with learner’s permits outside permitted conditions. In addition to tickets, the WPS said continued non-compliance could result in further consequences through SGI. Police might also impound vehicles, which will only be released to the registered owner with a properly-licensed driver.
Police are also noting an increase in motorists failing to stop for school buses when red lights and stop arms are activated. The WPS said numerous tickets have been issued, with assistance from onboard bus camera systems used to identify offending vehicles.
Noise Complaints
With warmer weather, police have responded to an increase in noise complaints related to outdoor gatherings and parties. Residents are reminded to be mindful of their neighbours when hosting events. Police appreciate the co-operation of residents who complied with requests to reduce noise levels.
