REGINA — A 12-year-old boy is facing several weapons charges after police say he threatened a group of youths with what turned out to be an imitation firearm Wednesday night in the city’s east side.
Regina police officers, including the Aerial Support Unit (ASU), were dispatched to the area of Dixon Crescent following a report of a weapons offence.
Police received information that a group of youths had been approached by three male youth suspects, one of whom threatened them with a firearm. ASU officers observed three individuals matching the description walking in the area. ASU officers relayed the suspects’ location to officers on the ground.
Officers arrived and took all three into custody. Following the investigation, two of the three youths were released. During the search of one of the suspects after arrest, officers located an airsoft handgun and a can of bear spray. The male youth suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The boy was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of an imitation weapon, and carrying a concealed prohibited device or ammunition.
He will appear in Regina youth court on June 16.
